The Purposeful Practice
Self-Guided | E-Learning
The Purposeful Practice is an 11-week, self-guided business development course for certified coaches and helping professionals who are ready to build a sustainable, values-aligned practice. Most coaches finish their training deeply skilled at the work itself and completely unprepared for the business side of it. This course changes that. Drawing on behavioral science, sales psychology, learning science, and real-world business development strategy, The Purposeful Practice takes you from money mindset to market research, service design to financial planning, and enrollment conversations to a fully built go-to-market strategy. You will learn to price your services with confidence, speak to the problems your clients are actually searching for, conduct discovery calls that convert without pressure, and build a business model that sustains the work you care about. AI integration guidance is woven throughout, so you leave with both the strategy and the tools to execute it. This is not an introduction to coaching business basics. It is where serious practitioners go to build something real.
We’ve had the pleasure of training youth coaches for:

EXCELLENT Based on 63 reviews Posted on Sara Rossi Raccagni I decided to train with YCI because it was the only one with a solid scientific basis, which I believe is crucial from an ethical perspective. I completed both the Youth Resilience Coach and Youth Health Coach programs. It was the best investment I could have made: the instructors are highly trained and do know how to create the ideal environment for continuous growth.Posted on Fabio Friscia I highly recommend the services of YCI to anyone interested in improving their skills to coach young people. Between the material and the classes, their offer is absolutely stellar! I am giving just 5 stars because giving a hundred is not possible!Posted on Shahnaz Bonadurer I am very glad that I had the chance to take the Youth Well-being course at the Youth Coaching Institute. Being part of this community, meeting like-minded people, engaging in peer coaching experiences, and having access to many great resources, tools, videos, and meaningful conversations made a real difference in my coaching journey.Posted on Leslie C. Newbold Dr. Leah Mazzoula’s course at the Youth Coaching Institute is truly exceptional. It’s clear how much care and expertise went into creating a program that’s science-based, evidence-backed, and incredibly supportive. I highly recommend it to anyone working with teens, parents, or anyone looking to grow as a coach and human being.Posted on Heather Mooney Incredibly grateful that I was strongly recommended to attend this program by another YCI alum (the amazing Cyndy Etler "the teen life coach"). After completing my coaching certificate I *totally* get why Cyndy insisted I attend YCI when I shared the intentions of becoming a coach! It's been instrumentally helpful in a multitude of ways and much more of a mindset shift than anticipated. All of the instruction, coaching practice and mentoring has been integral to my success as a coach. Appreciate the ongoing positive regard, growth mindset, and perpetual support for our continued coaching development as we navigate the various pathways for our careers.Posted on Robert McClellan I entered this program hopeful, but unsure of what to expect. It exceeded my expectations in so many ways. The training was thorough, supportive, and engaging. I feel equipped and eager to continue this important work! Highly recommend.Posted on Claire Gatonby I work extensively with the youth and found the YCI Youth Coaching course very insightful and valuable. The combination of theory and practical with tips on how to use this in meaningful interactions was highly beneficial. I would recommend this course.Posted on Kody Hersh I appreciated YCI's model of independent self-study combined with live classes for coaching practice and discussion. The content of the self-study materials has been really helpful for me as a youth professional in refreshing my knowledge of adolescent development, and learning how to use that knowledge to provide effective support as a coach. Program leaders are gifted and knowledgeable, and admin staff provided prompt and skilled support.Posted on Huaru Kang Participating in the YCI courses and becoming a certified Youth Well-being Coach through the YCI training has been truly an inspiring and rewarding journey. The program has not only deepened my understanding of youth development through self-study courses but also equipped me with practical coaching skills through online live sessions. I particularly appreciate its research-based and evidence-driven approach, which makes the course content both convincing and impactful. This clearly reflects Dr. Leah’s hard work and dedication. I am grateful for what I have gained as a Coach and beyond happy that I dove in for the whole experience. You won't regret doing the same.
The Core Benefits of The Purposeful Practice Course
Build the financial foundation your practice actually needs
Most coaches undercharge. Not because their work isn’t worth more, but because they never had a framework for thinking about money, pricing, and financial sustainability as professional responsibilities rather than uncomfortable afterthoughts. This course addresses that directly. You will work through the behavioral science of money beliefs, build a three-number income framework that grounds your pricing in math rather than guilt, and learn the pricing psychology principles that drive how buyers in professional service markets make decisions. By the time you complete the financial modules, you will have a fee that reflects the value you create and a business model designed to sustain the work you care most about.
Learn to market to problems, not credentials
The most common marketing mistake coaches make is leading with their method. Most people who need your services are not searching for a coach. They are searching for a solution to a specific, named problem: help for a teenager who has stopped trying, a way out of the procrastination cycle, the confidence they need to take the next step. This course teaches you to build all of your marketing from that starting point, using the language your clients actually use when they are looking for help. You will develop problem-centric website copy, social media content, and a lead generation strategy grounded in search behavior and buyer psychology rather than credential lists and method descriptions.
Master enrollment conversations that are ethical, confident, and effective
Selling feels wrong to most helping professionals, and there is a reason for that. The kind of selling they have seen modeled, high-pressure, urgency-driven, manipulation-adjacent, conflicts directly with the values that brought them to this work in the first place. This course teaches a different model entirely. Drawing on the neuroscience of buyer decision-making, emotional intelligence research, and ICF ethical standards, you will learn a four-stage enrollment conversation arc that functions as excellent coaching while moving a prospective client toward a clear and informed decision. You will practice stating your fee with confidence, responding to objections as coaching moments, and referring out with integrity when coaching is not the right fit.
Leave with a complete, operational business foundation
The Purposeful Practice is not a course about thinking through your business. It is a course for building it. Each of the 11 weeks produces a concrete deliverable: your personal mission statement and money story reframe, your three-number income worksheet, a market opportunity summary, a three-tier service portfolio, a completed Business Model Canvas, a full business plan with financial projections, a buyer journey map, a discovery call script, a 90-day go-to-market launch plan, and an operational setup checklist. By week 11, you have the plan, the strategy, the language, and the infrastructure to launch with clarity rather than guesswork. AI integration guidance means you also have the tools to build faster and more efficiently from day one.

Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion. The course includes resource development, continuing education hours applicable toward ICF credential renewal, and other professional credentialing requirements. The course moves through 11 interconnected modules: identity and money mindset, financial planning and pricing psychology, market research and opportunity discovery, service design and portfolio development, business model design, business plan development, buyer psychology and sales neuroscience, values-aligned enrollment conversations, go-to-market strategy and digital presence, and business establishment and long-term sustainability. AI integration guidance is woven throughout each module. A full syllabus is available for review here.
